Spoils shared
Harveys Bar 1 AFC Lea Holloway 1
Home scorers: D Armshaw
Away scorers: N Emberton

Harveys Bar and AFC Lea Holloway shared the spoils in an entertaining and well contested game at Cavendish Playing Fields in Matlock.

Holloway almost took the lead withing twenty seconds, Shaun Bott dribbling into the box from the left only to see his shot deflected wide for a corner.

Harveys had a good spell of attacking possession but good, solid defending from the Holloway defence kept them at bay. The best passage of play came shortly before half-time with Adam Pearson forcing a good save after neat play involving Nigel Emberton and Carl Whitford.

The second half didn't interrupt the flowing football and it was Holloway who took the lead. Holloway keeper David Allen threw to Dave Whitford who in turn found Pearson deep in the Harveys' half. Pearson unselfishly found Emberton with as neat through ball and the Holloway skipper finished well first time into the top right hand corner.

As the saying goes, 'you're never as vulnerable as when you've just scored' and this was the case as Dave Armshaw capitalized on some sloppy Holloway play to finish well across Allen.

Both teams pressed for a winner but a 1-1 draw was perhaps a fair result.

Bott double ensures Holloway victory
AFC Lea Holloway 2 Laburnum Saints 1
(played on The Dimple, Matlock)
Home scorers: S Bott
Away scorers: A Clifford

AFC Lea Holloway put last week's miserable defeat to Riddings Rovers behind them to record a well-earned win against Laburnum.

Manager Kev Carline gave the team a makeover, with Pete Dearman, Karl Taylor, Carl Whitford and Scott Andrews all returning to the starting line-up.

Both sides played some good football in an entertaining first-half, both goalkeepers and solid defending throughout ensured it was goalless at half-time.

The half-time break did nothing to stifle the enthusiasm of both sides and it was Holloway who broke the deadlock within ten minutes through Shaun Bott, who collected a pin-point cross from Nigel Emberton before finishing well to the keeperÕs left.

The 'away' side didn't give up and equalized through Andy Clifford who ran onto a through-ball and finished well.

Neither side wanted to settle for a point and it was Holloway who clinched all three, Bott turning his marker before firing home from an impossible angle to keep Holloway in amongst their mid-table rivals.

AFC Lea Holloway 1-0 Tibshelf

(Team: Allen, Ford, Bricknell, Pearson, Keith Taylor, Whitford, Stevenson, Fox, Andrews, Bott, Emberton (c). Subs: Mycroft, Dearman.

Lea Holloway got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory against Tibshelf in a very poor game that never got going from start to finish. The only goal came midway through the first half, Shaun Bott picking his spot after being put through by Pete Stevenson. Holloway owe the victory to debutant keeper Dave Allen who put in a man-of-the-match performance.

AFC Lea Holloway 2-5 Darley Dale Lions

(Team: Bird, Dearman, Karl Taylor, Pearson, Keith Taylor, Whitford, Fox, McKellar, Mycroft, Bott, Emberton (c). Subs: Allen, Walker.

Lea Holloway suffered their first league defeat since September with a below par performance against table-topping Darley Dale Lions. The away side were much the better side in the opening exchanges with Holloway struggling to adapt to an unfamiliar 4-5-1 system. Holloway went a goal down when Steve Fox put through his own net and a second soon followed. Shaun Bott pulled one back after beating the offside trap and rounding the keeper before slotting home to make it 3-1 at half-time.

An electric start to the second half saw Bott intercept a pass straight from the kick off and he managed to slip a pass through to Nigel Emberton, whose pinpoint cross found Bott at the back post who headed home to put Holloway right back into the game. The game didn't get any better for Holloway though as Darley showed their superiority in the game to add two more goals and put the game beyond doubt. Darley Dale scorers were Robert West, Martin French, Mark Ashton and Max Marsden.

The men of the match were Shaun Bott (Holloway) and Arron Sellers (Darley Dale).

AFC Lea Holloway 3-4 Shirland

(Team: Bird, Jones, Pearson, Karl Taylor, Keith Taylor, Bott, McKellar, Fox, Andrews, Emberton (c), Stevenson. Subs: Dearman, Dove, Whitford.

Lea Holloway bowed out of the Cavendish Cup against league high-flyers Shirland in a physical game at Lea Green. Manager Kev Carline handed starts to the returning Oliver Jones and a debut for new signing Peter Stevenson who looked a class act up front.

Shirland took the lead within two minutes, Steven Boot rising above the Holloway defence to nod home. Free-scoring Shaun Bott equalised mid way through the first half, firing home a rebound after Stevenson's shot wasn't cleared. Stephen Wright capitalized on some casual defending to fire Shirland in front to make it 1-2 at half-time.

Holloway had more of the ball in the second half and were rewared when Bott fired his 19th of the season in all competitions after being put through by Nigel Emberton. Holloway again found themselves behind, Wright slotting home his second from the penalty spot. Ross Dove brought Holloway level for the third time in the game with a header but it was Liam Bellamy who broke Holloway's hearts five minutes from time, his shot scrambling in at the far post to send Shirland to the semi-finals.

Bott and Godfrey braces earn draw

Ashbourne 2 AFC Lea Holloway 2

Ashbourner scorers: M. Warren. Holloway scorer: S. Bott

AFC Lea Holloway came away from Ashbourne with a well-earned point to keep their unbeaten league run going, although they can be disappointed not to have won the game despite playing the entire game with only ten players.

Ashbourne's advantage was hardly noticeable with stand-in centre half Adam Pearson and Karl Taylor defending well. The home side took the lead through Ian Godfrey who capitalised on a rebound.

Holloway equalised ten minutes later, Shaun Bott running onto Nigel Emberton's flick on to slot past the keeper.

The visitors took the lead within five minutes of the restart, Bott simply couldn't miss after robbing the ball from keeper Liam Rogersand tapping into an open goal. The home side put Holloway under intense pressure but good defending from all limited them to long range shots which didn't trouble the away keeper Andrew Bird.

Ashbourne equalised two minutes from time, Godfrey back-heeling in following a goalmouth scramble.

Spoils shared in League encounter

Hilcote United 2 AFC Lea Holloway 2
Away scorers:- Andrews, Bott

AFC Lea Holloway and Hilcote United shared the spoils in the only Matlock League fixture of the day.

Holloway manager Kev Carline again had no choice but to change the team with defenders Jason Haymes and Lee Bricknell both absent. Andrew Bird returned in goal, replacing stand-in keeper Pete Dearman and Dave Whitford returned to the squad after a two game absence.

The visitors started brightly and created several chances but Shaun Bott and Adam Pearson both failed to convert. Holloway deservedly took the lead when a long ball over the top was mis-kicked by the Hilcote goalkeeper, allowing Scott Andrews to roll into an empty net.

Hilcote equalized after a high ball into the box wasn't dealt with and the striker headed past Bird to make it 1-1 at half-time.

It was Holloway that again took the lead in the 65th minute through Bott, who ran onto a precise through ball from Pearson and tucked the ball past the keeper.

Hilcote were handed a lifeline in the shape of a controversial penalty decision, only for Bird to pull off a wonder save to keep Holloway in the lead.

The Lea Green lads defended well but Hilcote scored with two minutes remaining with a superb 25 yard volley.

Lea Holloway 3-0 Harveys

(Team: Dearman, Whitford, Karl Taylor, Bricknell, Keith Taylor, Bott, Andrews, Fox, McKellar, Pearson, Emberton(c). Subs: Mycroft, Cooke, Greatorex. Scorers: Fox, Pearson, Bott.

Holloway made it 2 unbeaten with a well earned win against 5th placed Harveys at Lea Green. In a re-shuffled side, Lee Bricknell returned in place of the injured Jason Haymes to partner Karl Taylor at the heart of the defence, and Pete Dearman kept goal in place of the absent Andrew Bird. There was also a start for the returning Adam Pearson. Holloway were very much the dominant team in the first half and were 2-0 up at half-time, Steve Fox heading home a Scott Andrews corner and Pearson rounding the keeper before slotting home. Harveys came at Holloway more in the second half but solid defending frustrated the away team. Holloway added a third when Shaun Bott scored with a header from another Andrews corner.

Holloway's new chapter begins
Tibshelf Community 4 AFC Lea Holloway 4
Home scorers:-
Away scorers:- Bott, C Whitford (2 pens), Andrews

The eleven that showed up for the game against Tibshelf started a new chapter in Holloway's season with a well-earned point.

Gale force headwinds didn't help Holloway who were 2-0 down at half-time. Holloway made the most of the wind after the break and pulled a goal back when Shaun Bott fired across the keeper with an angled shot from 20 yards. Bott then won a penalty which Carl Whitford coolly slotted home to make it 2-2.

Holloway then had to come from behind twice, Scott Andrews getting the last touch on a Nigel Emberton shot to make it 3-3 before a second Carl Whitford penalty earned a point for Holloway who had gone 4-3 down after Andrews' goal.

Darley Dale 4-2 Lea Holloway

(Team: Siddall, C.Whitford, Haymes, McCann, Keith Taylor, Pearson, Karl Taylor, Fox, D.Whitford(c), Bott, Emberton Subs: Riggott, Mycroft).

Holloway scorers Fox and Bott (pen).
After Wednesday's win over Kings Arms, Holloway perhaps showed complacency against the league front runners. Holloway were 3-0 down at half-time courtesy of some suicidal passes and poor concentration which let in the home side far too easily. Darley were by far the superior side in the first half.
Holloway improved in the second half despite Darley Dale adding a fourth early on with a questionable penalty. Steve Fox pulled one back for Holloway with a 'Beckham-esque' free-kick and this rallied the away team. Shaun Bott was brought down in the box five minutes from time and converted the penalty but it was too little too late for Holloway who have the potential to do well in this league. PLEASE PLEASE LET'S IMPROVE OUR TEAM SPIRIT!! BRING ON BAKEWELL!!

Wednesday 9th September

Lea Holloway 1 Kings Arms 0

(Team: Siddall, C.Whitford, Haymes, Keith Taylor, Pearson, Karl Taylor, D.Whitford(c), Bott, Andrews Subs: Fox, Mycroft, Dearman, Cooke).

Manager Kev Carline shuffled his pack for the away trip to Kings Arms who beat Holloway 4-3 on the opening day and this paid off with Holloway earning a 1-0 win. Both teams will agree that flowing football was impossible owing to the length of the grass and uneven surface but it was Holloway who adapted best to the conditions but couldn't make their pressure count and it was goalless at half-time.
The second half was a similar affair to the first although Kings did seem to improve and create more chances, only to be thwarted by determined defending by Holloway. 15 minutes into the second half, a cross from the right from Pearson was flicked on and Shaun Bott took the ball on his chest before volleying across the keeper to give Holloway a deserved 1-0 win.

Lea Holloway 1-6 Shirland

Holloway scorers:- Gaz Siddall

MOM: Bird.

Team: Bird, Mycroft, Dearman, Haymes, McKellar, Pearson, Fox, Siddall, D.Whitford(c), Bott, Emberton.

Holloway had their backs against the wall before the match even kicked off with only 11 players turning up for the game. Despite this, Holloway started brightly with Shaun Bott forcing a good save from the Shirland keeper within the first minute. However Shirland's desire to get to the ball first paid off and they went 1-0 up after around 15 minutes with a good finish. Gaz Siddall equalized with a powerful strike into the top left hand corner from 20yds but an all to familiar collapse saw Holloway leak 3 more goals, making the half-time score 4-1. A deserved half-time roasting from Gaffer Kev Carline seemed to sink in and Holloway looked a different side. Unfortunately Shirland's defence was up to the challenge and Holloway were unable to add to their tally, unlike the away side who added two more to make the final score 6-1.

Holloway went into the game in high spirits, determined to get their season on track following Wednesday's defeat to Kings Arms.

The home team went 1-0 up in the first five minutes, Shaun Bott beating the off-side trap before rounding the keeper and slotting home.

Complacency then seemed to set in and Holloway went 3-1 down before Bott scored again.

Hilcote added another to make it 4-2 at half-time and were quickly out of the traps in the second half and quickly made it 5-2 to seemingly put the game beyond the hosts.

Karl Whitford then struck a delightful free-kick into the top right hand corner to make it 5-3 before Holloway collapsed and conceded another three to make the final score 8-3.

Hilcote Man of the Match went to Holloway's Bott.

Lea Holloway 3-4 Kings Arms

Team - Bird, Dearman, Keith Taylor, Walker, Haynes, Pearson, D Whitford(c), K Whitford, Bott, Emberton, Siddall. Subs: Fox, Barnet, Karl Taylor, Harding, McKellar. (MOM Bott).

Holloway found themselves 2-0 down within the first 20 minutes and took a while to get going. Holloway pulled a goal back when Shaun Bott slotted home from a Gary Siddall pass to make the half time score 2-1. Holloway didn't give up in the second half and pulled it back to 2-2 with 20 minutes still to play, Bott again getting on the scoresheet. Emberton then headed wide and Karl Whitford hit the bar before Kings caught Holloway on the break twice in succession to make it 4-2. Debutant Ben Harding pulled one back for Holloway with a smart finish from the edge of the box, but the score remained 4-3 until the final whistle. Both teams harshly finished with ten men after an exchange between Siddall and Kings' number 10.

Team (rolling subs) Ward, Dearman, Walker, Haynes, McKellar, Harding, C.Whitford, D.Whitford(c), Bott, Emberton, Siddall. Staring subs Fox, Pearson, Karl Taylor, Keith Taylor, Bird.

In usual Lea Holloway fashion we gave the opposition a one goal headstart, conceding within the opening 2 minutes. However the new-look side quickly gelled and started passing the ball well and equalized when Shaun Bott slid the ball past the onrushing keeper. Dave Whitford then scored another 20 yard special before Bott added the third to make it 3-1 at half-time. Holloway were quickly out of the traps and added a fourth within a minute of the restart when Carl Whitford powerfully beat the keeper. Riddings then scored the goal of the game before Adam Pearson put the game beyond doubt, heading into an open goal from 6yds from a Gary Siddall Cross. Final score 5-2..

Saturday 25th July 2009

AFC Lea Holloway 2-5 Woolley Moor

(Holloway scorers D. Whitford, C. Whitford. MOM Bricknell).

Team (rolling subs) Bird, Dearman, Bricknell, Fox, Taylor, Pearson, D. Whitford (c), Siddall, Bott, C. Whitford, Barnet. Starting sub Greatorex.

An encouraging performance against a well organised and decent footballing side. We found ourselves 3-0 down within 15 minutes, with Birdy not having a chance with any of the goals before Captain Dave Whitford pulled one back with a 20yd free-kick which went like a bullet into the top right-hand corner. Half-time 3-1. Woolley Moor extended their lead early in the 2nd half when we were caught on the break. Carl Whitford then ran on to a ball over the top by Gaz Siddall and beat the on-rushing keeper to make it 4-2. The game was then soured when Dave Whitford suffered a knee injury in a 50-50 that ultimately ended his game and requiring an ambulance to be called. Woolley then added a fifth to make the final score 5-2.
